Ultrasonic Flow Meters

20+ Years Manufacturing Experience

Compared with NB-IoT technology, what are the advantages of WiFi ultrasonic water meters ?

Compared with NB-IoT technology, WiFi ultrasonic water meters have certain advantages in terms of data transmission speed, network compatibility, deployment costs, and application scenarios, as detailed below:

  • Fast data transmission speed: WiFi generally has a much faster transmission rate than NB-IoT. NB-IoT is mainly used for IoT applications with low data rates, and its data transmission rate is usually between tens of kbps and hundreds of kbps. In contrast, WiFi can reach a transmission rate of Mbps or even Gbps, enabling faster transmission of large amounts of data, such as real-time water consumption data and detailed water usage analysis reports. This allows management departments or users to obtain comprehensive water information more promptly.
  • Good network compatibility: WiFi is a widely used wireless network technology, and almost all smartphones, tablets, and computers support WiFi connections. Therefore, WiFi ultrasonic water meters can directly connect and communicate with these devices without the need for additional dedicated equipment or conversion devices. This facilitates users to conduct real-time monitoring and management through mobile apps or computer terminals. In contrast, NB-IoT devices require specific NB-IoT modules and network support, resulting in relatively poor compatibility.
  • Low initial deployment cost: In areas where WiFi networks have already been established, such as homes, office buildings, and residential communities, the use of WiFi ultrasonic water meters does not require the construction of a separate communication network. They can directly utilize existing WiFi infrastructure, significantly reducing the initial deployment cost. Although the price of NB-IoT modules is constantly decreasing, they still rely on the network coverage of operators. In areas with incomplete network coverage, additional investment may be required to enhance signals or build base stations.
  • Suitable for short-distance high-speed data transmission scenarios: Within relatively small ranges, such as homes and small commercial premises, WiFi ultrasonic water meters can well meet the needs of short-distance high-speed data transmission. In these scenarios, the wide-area coverage capability of NB-IoT is not necessary, and the advantages of WiFi in short-distance communication can be better utilized to provide stable and fast data transmission services.
  • Enabling interconnection between devices: WiFi networks support simultaneous connection of multiple devices and can realize interconnection between devices. WiFi ultrasonic water meters can connect and share data with other smart devices in homes or buildings, such as smart electricity meters, smart gas meters, and smart home systems. This enables more comprehensive intelligent management and energy monitoring. In contrast, NB-IoT mainly focuses on communication between devices and the cloud, and interconnection between devices is relatively complex.
