Coriolis mass flowmeters advantages

Coriolis mass flowmeters, which directly measure the mass flow of fluids based on the Coriolis effect, are high-precision instruments with the following core advantages:

1. Direct mass flow measurement without compensation

  • They directly output mass flow (units: kg/h, t/h, etc.) and are not affected by changes in fluid parameters such as temperature, pressure, density, and viscosity. No additional temperature/pressure compensation devices are required, ensuring more stable measurement accuracy.
  • Compared with volumetric flowmeters (e.g., vortex shedding, orifice plates), they avoid measurement errors caused by changes in fluid state, making them particularly suitable for multi-component mixed fluids or phase-change fluids (such as liquids containing bubbles).

2. High measurement accuracy and excellent repeatability

  • Industrial-grade products typically achieve a measurement accuracy of ±0.1% to ±0.5% of reading, and high-precision models can even reach ±0.05%, far exceeding most other types of flowmeters.
  • They offer excellent repeatability (generally ≤±0.05%) and strong long-term operational stability, making them suitable for scenarios with high requirements for data reliability, such as trade settlement and precision process control.

3. Wide range of applicable fluids

  • They can measure almost all types of fluids:
    • Liquids (including high-viscosity liquids, particle-containing slurries, corrosive liquids, etc.);
    • Gases (including high-pressure gases, wet gases, multi-component mixed gases);
    • Gas-liquid two-phase flows (maintaining accuracy within a certain proportion range).

4. Unobstructed flow path design

  • There are no throttling elements, turbines, or other moving parts inside the sensor. Measurement is achieved only through the vibration of the pipeline itself. Therefore:
    • Pressure loss is small, resulting in low energy consumption;
    • They are not prone to clogging, reducing maintenance costs, especially suitable for fluids containing impurities or high viscosity;
    • They have a long service life, minimizing accuracy degradation caused by component wear.

5. Capability to measure multiple parameters simultaneously

  • In addition to mass flow, most models can synchronously output parameters such as fluid density and temperature, achieving “one meter for multiple uses”. This simplifies the system structure and reduces equipment costs.
  • The density measurement accuracy can reach ±0.001 g/cm³, which can be used to monitor fluid concentration (e.g., solid content in syrup or mud).

6. Convenient installation and maintenance

  • They have low requirements for straight pipe sections, eliminating the need for long upstream and downstream straight pipe runs, which simplifies on-site installation layout.
  • With no moving parts, the failure rate is low, reducing the frequency of maintenance and replacement, and lowering the total cost of ownership.

These advantages make Coriolis mass flowmeters irreplaceable in fields such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and energy measurement.
