Yes, proper grounding is required for an electromagnetic flow meter, and it is essential for accurate and stable measurement.

Why grounding is necessary ?

1. Ensures measurement accuracy
Electromagnetic flow meters measure very small induced voltages generated by the flowing conductive liquid. Proper grounding provides a stable reference potential, allowing the transmitter to accurately detect the flow signal.

2. Reduces electrical noise and interference
Grounding helps eliminate electrical noise caused by stray currents, electromagnetic interference, and potential differences between the fluid and the meter body, which can otherwise lead to unstable or incorrect readings.

3. Protects the instrument and personnel
Correct grounding prevents damage from electrical faults and improves overall operational safety.

4. Prevents electrode polarization errors
Without proper grounding, electrode signals may drift or fluctuate, resulting in zero instability or measurement errors.

Grounding methods ?

1. Metal pipelines:
When installed in a properly grounded metal pipe, the flow meter is usually grounded through the pipe itself.

2. Non-metallic or lined pipelines:
Grounding rings or grounding electrodes must be installed on both sides of the flow meter to ensure reliable grounding of the fluid.
