Large Fluctuations in Measurement Data?

When the measurement data of the ultrasonic flowmeter fluctuates frequently and cannot be displayed stably, the problem may occur in the following 4 dimensions, and targeted measures can be taken:

Dimension 1: Installation environment interference. First, check whether the equipment is close to strong electromagnetic interference sources such as high-power motors and frequency converters, which will affect the transmission of ultrasonic signals. If the distance is too close (less than 1 meter), the flowmeter needs to be kept away from the interference source, or a metal shielding plate should be installed between the flowmeter and the interference source. At the same time, check whether the pipeline has strong vibration, such as resonance during the operation of the water pump. A shock absorber can be installed at the flowmeter mounting bracket to reduce the impact of vibration on measurement.
Dimension 2: Probe installation issues. Check whether the probe is closely attached to the pipeline. If the probe is loose or the coupling agent is aged, the signal transmission will be unstable. At this time, turn off the equipment, remove the probe, clean the dust and oil on the surface of the probe and the pipeline, reapply special coupling agent (ensure there are no air bubbles in the coupling agent), and then fix the probe firmly. When tightening the fixing bolts, apply uniform force to avoid probe deformation. In addition, check whether the probe installation spacing meets the equipment requirements. Different pipe diameters correspond to different installation spacings. You can refer to the spacing table in the equipment manual to readjust.
Dimension 3: Changes in medium state. If the measured medium contains a large number of bubbles and impurities, or the temperature and viscosity of the medium change suddenly, the measurement accuracy will be affected. At this time, observe the state of the medium in the pipeline. If there are bubbles, an exhaust valve can be installed at the high point of the pipeline; if there are many impurities, a filter should be installed upstream of the flowmeter (the filtration accuracy is determined according to the medium condition). At the same time, confirm whether the equipment is suitable for the temperature and viscosity range of the current medium. If it exceeds the applicable range, the corresponding probe or model needs to be replaced.
Dimension 4: Equipment parameter settings. Enter the equipment parameter interface and check whether parameters such as “measurement mode”, “pipe diameter” and “medium sound speed” are set correctly. For example, if the actual pipe diameter is DN100 but it is mistakenly set to DN80, data fluctuation will occur. The parameters can be recalibrated according to the actual on-site situation. Some equipment supports the “automatic calibration” function; after activation, the equipment will automatically adapt to the current working conditions and reduce data fluctuations.
