1. Introduction

The TF1100-CH series Handheld Ultrasonic Flow Meter feature advanced Transit-Time measuring technology, delivering high precision flow rate.As a non-invasive and battery powered ultrasonic flow meter, the TF1100-CH series utilizes non-invasive transducers that can be hand-held or strapped to the outside of a pipe—eliminating the need for pipe modification and offering the benefits of non-fouling operation and ease of installation. Designed as a chemical resistant ultrasonic flow meter, it accommodates a variety of liquid applications, including ultra-pure liquids, potable water, chemicals, raw sewage, reclaimed water, cooling water, river water, plant effluent, etc. Unlike traditional inline ultrasonic flow meter, its external mounting provided by Lanry Instruments design avoids direct contact with media while maintaining measurement reliability.

2. Core Measurement Principle

Different from the principle of Doppler flow meters, the TF1100-CH transit time flow meter uses two transducers that act as both ultrasonic transmitters and receivers, clamped externally on a closed pipe at a specific distance. Three mounting methods are available: V-method (sound traverses the pipe twice), W-method (four times), and Z-method (transducers mounted on opposite sides, sound crosses once), with selection based on pipe and liquid characteristics. The meter operates by alternately transmitting/receiving frequency-modulated sound bursts between the two transducers, measuring the transit time difference—which is directly and precisely related to the liquid velocity in the pipe.
