Radar level meter and ultrasonic level meter are commonly used level measuring instruments, the following are the advantages and disadvantages of radar level meter compared with ultrasonic level meter:
advantage
High measurement accuracy: the radar level meter uses the principle of microwave reflection to measure, which is not affected by changes in temperature, pressure, density, humidity and other media, and the measurement accuracy is high, generally up to ±1mm or even higher. The measurement accuracy of ultrasonic level meter is greatly affected by factors such as medium characteristics and ambient temperature, and the accuracy is usually about ± 3mm-± 5mm.
Wide range of application
Medium adaptability: Radar level meter can measure the liquid level of various liquid and solid materials, including corrosive, viscous, easy crystallization and other special media. When measuring the medium with high viscosity, easy crystallization or foam, the ultrasonic level meter may have signal attenuation or unstable reflection.
High temperature and high pressure environment: the radar level meter can work stably in the harsh environment of high temperature (up to 400℃ or more) and high pressure (up to 40MPa or more). Due to the limitation of transducer material and principle, the application range of ultrasonic liquid level meter in high temperature and high pressure environment is relatively narrow.
Large range: The measuring range of the radar level meter is large, which can generally reach tens of meters or even hundreds of meters, and is suitable for liquid level measurement of large storage tanks and tall towers. The effective measuring range of ultrasonic level meter is usually within ten meters.
Strong anti-interference ability: the microwave signal emitted by the radar level meter is not interfered by external electromagnetic waves, sound waves and other signals, and the signal is stable and reliable. In the environment with strong noise, vibration or steam, the ultrasonic level meter is prone to interference, resulting in increased measurement error.
Installation requirements are relatively low: the radar level meter is not sensitive to obstacles and agitators in the container when installed, as long as the antenna is not blocked. Ultrasonic level meter requires no obstacles above the liquid level, otherwise it will affect the propagation and reflection of sound waves, resulting in inaccurate measurement.
Inferior position
High price: The technical content of radar level meter is high, and the manufacturing process is complex, so the price is much more expensive than the ultrasonic level meter, which limits its application scope to a certain extent, especially in some cost-sensitive occasions.
It is difficult to measure the medium with small dielectric constant: for the medium with small dielectric constant, the reflected signal of the radar wave is weak, which may affect the measurement accuracy. The ultrasonic liquid level meter is not sensitive to the dielectric constant of the medium, and is more suitable for measuring the medium with large or small changes in dielectric constant.
There is a blind area: the radar level meter has a certain blind area near the measurement starting point, generally tens of centimeters to about one meter, and can not measure the liquid level very close to the bottom. The blind area of the ultrasonic level meter is relatively small, usually between a few centimeters and tens of centimeters.
Poor signal penetration: radar waves can not penetrate strong reflective materials such as metal, if the container is metal and internal lining or insulation layer, may affect the propagation and reflection of radar waves, need to use a special installation method or choose the appropriate radar level gauge model. The sound wave of the ultrasonic level meter can penetrate a certain thickness of non-metallic materials, and the adaptability of the container material and structure is relatively good.
