The installation of an electromagnetic flow meter must follow specific requirements to ensure accurate, stable, and reliable measurement.
Key installation requirements:
1. Full pipe condition
The measuring tube must always be completely filled with liquid. Avoid installation at high points in the pipeline where air may accumulate.
2. Flow direction
Install the meter in the direction indicated by the arrow on the sensor nameplate.
3. Straight pipe lengths
Provide sufficient straight pipe runs to minimize flow disturbance:
Upstream: ≥ 5D (10D recommended)
Downstream: ≥ 3D
(D = nominal pipe diameter)
4. Installation orientation
Horizontal installation is preferred, with electrodes positioned horizontally to avoid air bubbles or sediment buildup.
Vertical installation is acceptable when flow is upward.
5. Grounding
Proper grounding is mandatory to ensure measurement accuracy and signal stability. Use grounding rings when installed in non-metallic or lined pipelines.
6. Avoid strong interference
Keep the flow meter away from strong electromagnetic fields, vibration sources, and large electric motors.
7. Valve and pump location
Install control valves downstream of the flow meter.
Avoid installing the meter immediately after a pump.
8. Environmental conditions
Ensure ambient temperature, humidity, and protection class (IP rating) meet the instrument specifications.
