What Are the Main Advantages of Ultrasonic Flowmeters Compared with Electromagnetic Flowmeters?

Compared with electromagnetic flowmeters, ultrasonic flowmeters offer several significant advantages, especially in terms of installation flexibility and application range.

First, non-intrusive measurement is one of the main advantages of ultrasonic flowmeters. Clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters can be installed outside the pipe without cutting the pipeline or stopping the process, while electromagnetic flowmeters require direct contact with the fluid and pipe modification.

Second, ultrasonic flowmeters cause no pressure loss because there are no obstructions or electrodes in contact with the fluid. This makes them ideal for large-diameter pipelines and applications where maintaining system pressure is critical.

Third, ultrasonic flowmeters have wider application flexibility. They can be used on very large pipe diameters and on pipelines made of various materials. In addition, they do not require a minimum fluid conductivity, unlike electromagnetic flowmeters.

Fourth, ultrasonic flowmeters are easier to install and maintain. Since there is no contact with the measured medium, they are suitable for corrosive, high-purity, or hazardous liquids and typically require less maintenance.
