Ultrasonic Flow Meters

20+ Years Manufacturing Experience

Which aspects will affect the results of ultrasonic flowmeters?

Ultrasonic flowmeter is a kind of non-contact measuring fluid flow instrument, which is widely used in industrial, civil and environmental protection fields. Its working principle is to use the time difference of ultrasonic wave propagation in the fluid to calculate the flow rate and flow rate of the fluid. However, in the actual use process, the measurement results of the ultrasonic flowmeter may be affected by a variety of factors, resulting in measurement errors.
1. Fluid properties
The properties of the fluid have an important effect on the measurement results of the ultrasonic flowmeter. First of all, the sound speed of the fluid is related to temperature, pressure, concentration and other factors, and changes in these factors will lead to changes in the sound speed, thus affecting the measurement results. Secondly, the physical properties such as the density and viscosity of the fluid will also affect the propagation speed and attenuation degree of the ultrasonic wave, thus affecting the measurement results. In addition, inhomogeneous substances such as bubbles and impurities in the fluid will interfere with the propagation of ultrasonic waves, resulting in measurement errors.
2. Pipeline structure
The structure of the pipeline also has a certain impact on the measurement results of the ultrasonic flowmeter. First of all, the material, wall thickness, inner diameter and other parameters of the pipeline will affect the propagation speed and attenuation degree of the ultrasonic wave in the pipeline. Secondly, the shape of the pipeline, the degree of bending, the connection method, etc., will also have an impact on the spread of ultrasonic waves. In addition, corrosion, scaling and other phenomena inside the pipe can change the acoustic characteristics of the pipe, thus affecting the measurement results.
3. Probe type and installation position
The probe type and installation position of ultrasonic flowmeter have important influence on its measurement results. Different types of probes have different transmitting frequencies and receiving sensitivities, so selecting the appropriate probe type can improve the measurement accuracy. In addition, the installation position of the probe should be as far away from impurities, bubbles and other disturbances in the pipeline as possible to reduce measurement errors. At the same time, the installation Angle and direction of the probe will also affect the transmission and reception of the ultrasonic wave, which needs to be adjusted according to the actual situation.
4. Environmental noise
The measurement principle of ultrasonic flowmeter is based on the time difference of ultrasonic wave propagation in the fluid, so the impact of environmental noise on the measurement results cannot be ignored. Noise signals such as mechanical vibration and electromagnetic interference in the environment may be aliased with ultrasonic signals, resulting in measurement errors. In order to reduce the impact of environmental noise, measures such as sound insulation and shielding can be taken, or an ultrasonic flowmeter with a high signal-to-noise ratio can be selected.
5. Instrument performance and calibration
The performance and calibration state of ultrasonic flowmeter have a direct influence on its measurement results. First of all, the instrument’s transmitting power, receiving sensitivity, signal processing ability and other performance parameters should meet the measurement requirements to ensure the measurement accuracy. Secondly, the instrument should be calibrated and maintained regularly to eliminate errors such as zero drift and gain drift. In addition, the software algorithm and data processing capability of the instrument will also affect the accuracy of the measurement results.
The measurement results of ultrasonic flowmeters are affected by many factors, including the nature of the fluid, pipe structure, probe type and installation location, ambient noise, and instrument performance and calibration. In order to improve the measurement accuracy and reliability of ultrasonic flowmeters, these influencing factors need to be fully considered and controlled.
