Are You Looking for a Flow Meter That Can Measure Flow Velocity, Water Depth, Temperature, and Conductivity Simultaneously?

Short vision

The Lanry DOF6000 Series is an area-velocity flow meter designed for open channels, rivers, streams, and partially filled pipes. It uses the Ultraflow QSD 6537 submersible sensor to measure water velocity, depth, temperature, and electrical conductivity. When connected to the DOF6000 flow calculator, it can also calculate and display flow rate and total flow.

But how can one instrument measure several different parameters at the same time?

The answer is that the DOF6000 integrates different sensing functions into one sensor. Each function detects a different physical property of the water, and the instrument processes the measurement signals to provide the corresponding results.

1

How Does the DOF6000 Measure Flow Velocity?

The DOF6000 uses the Doppler ultrasonic principle to measure water velocity.

First, the sensor continuously transmits ultrasonic signals into the water. When these signals encounter suspended particles or small bubbles moving with the water, some of the sound energy is reflected back to the sensor. The instrument analyzes the frequency shift between the transmitted and reflected signals. Based on this Doppler shift, it calculates the water velocity.

In simple terms: The DOF6000 measures water velocity by analyzing ultrasonic signals reflected from moving particles or bubbles in the water.

2

How Does the DOF6000 Measure Water Depth?

The DOF6000 supports two water-depth measurement methods: pressure measurement and ultrasonic measurement. These methods offer flexibility for different installation conditions, but they are alternatives rather than two methods that must operate simultaneously.

2.1 Pressure-Based Depth Measurement

Water pressure increases with depth. The pressure sensor measures the pressure exerted by the water, and the instrument uses this measurement to calculate water depth. Because atmospheric pressure can affect the reading, the DOF6000 calculator includes pressure compensation.

2.2 Ultrasonic Depth Measurement

The ultrasonic depth sensor sends a signal toward the water surface and receives the reflected echo. By measuring the travel time, the instrument calculates the distance between the sensor and the water surface.

In simple terms: Pressure-based measurement determines depth from water pressure, while ultrasonic measurement determines depth from the time taken by a sound signal to travel to and return from the water surface.

3

Water Temperature

The sensor includes a solid-state temperature-sensing element. As water temperature changes, it produces a corresponding electrical signal. This is vital for compensating the speed of sound and electrical conductivity, providing more reliable results.

4

Electrical Conductivity

Uses a four-electrode configuration to measure conductivity by passing a small current through the water. It is useful for monitoring changes in water conditions in wastewater and environmental applications.

5

How Does the DOF6000 Calculate Flow Rate?

The flow rate is calculated using the area-velocity relationship:

Flow rate = Cross-sectional area × Mean flow velocity
  • Flow rate (Q): The volume of water passing through the cross-section per unit of time.
  • Cross-sectional area (A): The area occupied by the flowing water (calculated using up to 20 coordinate points).
  • Mean flow velocity (V): The representative average velocity used in the flow calculation.

6

Why Is Simultaneous Multi-Parameter Measurement Useful?

Flow monitoring: Velocity, depth, flow rate, and total flow.
Condition monitoring: Temperature and electrical conductivity data.
Bidirectional flow: Monitor forward and reverse flow.
Flexible installation: Choice of depth measurement methods.
Channel adaptability: Custom coordinate points for any shape.

7. Conclusion

The DOF6000 can measure water velocity, depth, temperature, and electrical conductivity simultaneously because its integrated sensor combines different sensing functions. By combining multi-parameter monitoring with area-velocity flow calculation, the DOF6000 provides a practical solution for monitoring water movement and changing water conditions in open channels and partially filled pipes.

For an application-specific recommendation, provide details about the water conditions, channel or pipe dimensions, expected flow range, and installation environment.
