Can the DOF6000 Doppler Flow Meter Measure Wastewater Containing Suspended Solids?

Discover how the DOF6000 Doppler ultrasonic flow meter measures wastewater containing suspended solids and bubbles in partially filled pipes, sewers, and open channels.

Why Is Doppler Technology Suitable for Wastewater Flow Measurement?

Wastewater often contains suspended solids, sludge particles, and air bubbles. These conditions can make flow measurement more challenging, especially in gravity sewer pipes and open drainage channels.

The Lanry DOF6000 is an ultrasonic Doppler area-velocity flow meter designed for suitable wastewater flow measurement, partially filled pipes, and open channels.

Unlike transit-time ultrasonic flow meters, which measure differences in ultrasonic travel time, a Doppler flow meter uses signals reflected by moving particles or bubbles to determine liquid velocity.

Can It Measure Sewage and Industrial Wastewater?

Yes, provided the liquid and installation conditions are suitable.

The DOF6000 can be considered for applications such as:

  • Municipal sewage flow monitoring
  • Industrial wastewater flow measurement
  • Wastewater treatment plant influent and effluent monitoring
  • Stormwater discharge measurement
  • Drainage and irrigation flow monitoring
  • Environmental discharge monitoring

However, suspended solids do not automatically guarantee a reliable signal. Particle characteristics, concentration, flow conditions, and sensor installation can all affect Doppler velocity measurement.

What If the Water Is Too Clean?

Very clean water may contain insufficient particles or bubbles to provide strong ultrasonic reflections. In this case, a Doppler ultrasonic flow meter may produce weak or unreliable velocity readings.

If the liquid contains very few suspended particles, discuss alternative measurement technologies with the manufacturer before selecting a flow meter.

What Should You Check Before Ordering?

For wastewater and sewage flow measurement, provide the liquid type, suspended solids characteristics, pipe diameter or channel dimensions, minimum water depth, expected flow range, and installation location.

These details help determine whether the DOF6000 non-full pipe flow meter is suitable for your application.
