Ultrasonic Flow Meters

Some requirements of the installation position of the ultrasonic flowmeter

Select a section filled with fluid. A vertical section of the pipe or a horizontal section filled with fluid should be selected to ensure sufficient fluid flow at the measuring point.

Measuring point location. The measuring point should be located within a uniform straight pipe section 10 times the diameter of the upstream and 5 times the diameter of the downstream, and there is no interference source such as valves, tees, and elbows in the pipe section.
Temperature requirements. The temperature at the measuring point should be within the working range of the flowmeter to avoid the impact of temperature changes on the measurement accuracy.
Wall condition. The scaling condition of the inner wall of the pipe should be considered, and the pipe section without scaling or easy to ultrasonic transmission should be selected. If the tube wall has anti-corrosion paint, it needs to be polished clean.
Avoid interference sources. Strong magnetic fields, motors and other interference sources should be avoided near the installation site to prevent signal confusion or receiving interference.
Select the right pipe material. For plug-in sensors, the pipe material should be able to meet the requirements of the welded base. For the external clamped sensor, it is suitable for stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron, PVC plastic and other materials.
Straight pipe section requirements. The straight pipe section upstream of the installation point should be greater than 10 times the diameter of the pipe, and the downstream should be greater than 5 times the diameter of the pipe.
Avoid joints and welds. The sensor should be installed away from pipe joints and welds.
Grounding and wiring. Ultrasonic flowmeter should be ground protection to ensure signal stability.
Protective measures. Measures should be taken to protect the sensor from external impact, vibration, high and low temperature effects and corrosive gases.
Regular maintenance. The sensor should be regularly serviced and maintained, including cleaning, checking the connection and grounding resistance.
Above of all points is helpful for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of ultrasonic flowmeters.
