What are the common questions of ultrasonic flowmeter ?

1. The measurement of flow rate shows abnormal and huge data drastic change.

Reason:  Maybe Ultrasonic transducers are installed in the pipeline with big vibration or in the regulator valve, pump, downstream of the shrinkage hole;

How to deal with:Installing the sensor should be far away from vibration part of pipeline or move it upstream of the device which will change the water flow status.

2.  Without any problem for ultrasonic transducers , but the meter displays low flow rate or no flow rate, there are mainly below reasons.

(1) The surface of pipe is uneven and rough, or sensor installation in place of welding, you need to smooth the pipe or  install the sensor far away from the weld.

(2) Due to the paint and rust in the pipe have not been cleaned well, you need to make the pipe clean and re-install the sensor.

(3)  the roundness of the pipeline is not good, the inner surface is not smooth, and there is pipe lining scaling. Treatment method: Install the sensor where the inner surface is smooth, such as steel pipe material or lining.

(4) There is liner for measured pipes, liner material is not uniform and without good asoustic conductivity.

(5)  Between Ultrasonic sensors and pipewall exsit gaps or bubbles, re-use couplanting and install the sensors.

3. Incorrect reading

The sensor might be installed at the top or bottom of the horizontal pipe with sediment interfering to disturb the ultrasonic signal.

The measured pipe is not full of water.

How to deal with: the former shall change the sensor mounting location to install it, the latter will install the sensor on full water pipes.

4. When the valve is partially closed or try to decrease water flow rate, the reading increases, that’s because the sensor installed too close to the downstream of the control valve; When the partial closure of the valve, the actual flowmeter measurement is to control the flow rate of the valve shrink flow rate increase, due to the diameter of the flow rate increase.

How to deal with: Keep the sensor away from the valve.

5. Flow meter can work normally, but suddenly it can’t measure the flow rate no longer.

How to deal with: Check the liquid type, temperature, couplanting and restart it.
