It depends on the pipeline material. For metal pipelines with good conductivity, grounding rings are not mandatory if the flanges are well connected and grounded. For non-metal pipelines, insulated pipes, or pipes with lining, grounding rings are required to form a complete signal loop. Without proper grounding accessories, the meter will suffer signal interference, data jumping, or inaccurate measurement.
