Method of Estimating Sound Speed of a Certain Fluid

Sound speed of measured fluid is required when using TF1100 series transit-time ultrasonic flow meters. This instruction is used to estimate the sound speed of a certain fluid that the meter system doesn’t tell its sound speed and you have to estimate it.

Pls follow the steps bellow for TF1100 series transit-time ultra sonic flow meter :

1. Press key MENU  1   1  to enter into Windows M11 and input pipe O.D. Then press to confirm.

2. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M12 and input pipe thickness. Then press to confirm. 

3. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M13. Meter will work out pipe I.D. automatically.

4. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M14. Then press ENTER ,∧/+ or ∨/- to choose pipe material. Then press ENTER to confirm.

5. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M16. Then press ENTER ,∧/+ or ∨/- to choose linear material. Then press ENTER to confirm.

6. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M20. Then press ENTER ,∧/+ or ∨/- to choose fluid type as “8. Other”. Then press ENTER to confirm.

7. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M21. Then press ENTER and type in 1482m/s (which is the sound speed of water, a default setting by meter system) if fluid type inside pipe is unknown. Then press ENTER to confirm.

8. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M22. Then press ENTER to type in the viscosity of measured fluid. If unknown, pls allow the default setting by meter system which is 1.0038.

9. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M23. Then press ENTER ,∧/+ or ∨/- to choose transducer type. Then press ENTER to confirm.

10. Press key ∨/- to enter into Windows M24. Then press ENTER ,∧/+  or ∨/- to choose mounting type. Then press ENTER to confirm.

11. After inputting above parameters, press ∨/- to enter into Window M25 which will display the proper mounting space between the two transducers automatically. This mounting spacing should be strictly complied with.

12. When installing, please ensure the Signal Strength and Quality value displayed in M90 as larger as possible. High signal strength and quality can ensure stability and accuracy of operation.

13. Press key MENU  9   2 to view the sound speed detected by meter. Generally, the detected value is approximately equal to the input value in M21. If there is large difference between the two values, it means the installation location or value in M21 is wrong. Then we need to enter the estimated sound speed into M21. Generally, repeat above method for three times and you will get accurate estimated sound speed. 

14. After finishing all above parameter settings, press MENU  0   1  to display measuring value.
