Understanding the Working Principle of Electromagnetic Flow Meters
An electromagnetic flow meter (mag meter) is a device used to measure the flow rate of conductive liquids such as water, wastewater, chemicals, and slurries.
Working Principle
The electromagnetic flow meter works based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. When a conductive liquid flows through a magnetic field inside the sensor, it generates a voltage. This voltage is directly proportional to the flow velocity.
The meter then converts this voltage into a flow rate signal.
